Robino Salvatore

Not long after their top-secret Venice wedding, George Clooney and spouse (and accomplished human rights lawyer) Amal Alamuddin appear to be looking to settle down—in a fashion only befitting a movie star. According to Variety, Clooney and Alamuddin are the rumored new owners of a multimillion, 5.5-acre private island (complete with a 10-bedroom 17th-century Georgian mansion) on the Thames, 37 miles west of London. It's just as romantic as you might hope: Four Doric columns flank the front door, and the floors are made from marble and mahogany parquet.

The 8,949-square-foot home isn't all vintage: The kitchen has been recently updated with marble countertops, modern appliances, and a cheery yellow stove, and the fitness complex (no, not one room—an entire complex) includes a gym, shower and steam room—plus a caldarium with heated floors. But it's outside where the property truly shines, with landscaped riverview gardens plucked straight from Jane Eyre, where visitors can rest beneath willows and magnolias. And if you're ready to leave? Just grab a ride from the Clooneys' private boathouse.
