For the Miami home of filmmaker Michael Bay, interior designer Lynda Murray conceptualized a site-specific ceiling-to-floor light sculpture, executed by glass artist Alison Berger, that cascades down the center of a 40-foot nautilus staircase. Rising three stories from the living room to the roof deck, the glass-and-steel staircase was designed by architect Chad Oppenheim. The living room floors are limestone, and the wall of windows looks out onto a reflecting pool.

Painter John Dowd displays selections from his art collection in the stairwell of the 1820s cottage he restored in Provincetown, Massachusetts. A 1950s portrait by Judith Shahn of a local gas-station attendant hangs near a painting by Ross Moffett of chimney repairmen. The chaise longue is 19th century, and the wide plank floors are original to the house.
